Why You Need Owner Permission in Google Search Console

GoIndexed requires Owner-level access to your Google Search Console property to add a service account and enable auto-indexing. This guide explains how to check and fix your permission level.

Search Console permission levels

Google Search Console has three permission levels for users on a property:

  • Owner — full access, can add and remove users, can add service accounts
  • Full user — can view all data and use most tools, but cannot manage users
  • Restricted user — read-only access to most reports

Why GoIndexed needs Owner access

To enable auto-indexing, GoIndexed's service account must be added as an Owner of your Search Console property. Only existing Owners can add new owners.

If you signed in with a Google account that has Full user or Restricted access, you won't be able to complete the service account verification step.

How to check your current permission level

  1. Open Search Console → Settings → Users and permissions

Select your property, then navigate to Settings → Users and permissions.

  2. Find your account in the list

Your permission level is shown next to your email address. If it says Full user or Restricted, you cannot add owners.

How to get Owner access

  • Ask the current Owner of the property to upgrade your account to Owner in Settings → Users and permissions
  • If you registered the domain yourself, sign in to Search Console with the Google account you used to verify the property — that account is always the Owner
  • If the site was verified via Google Tag Manager or Google Analytics, the owner is whoever has admin access to that account
